Matriculants will write their final National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams from Wednesday 27 October and the final exam will be written on Tuesday, 7 December. It will be the second final matric exam since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the beginning of 2020.
The Department of Basic Education has urged the members of the public through its social media platforms to report any irregularities during the sitting of matric exams. The department stated that the information reported will be handled with utmost confidentiality.

Much like the previous year’s matric learners, the Class of 2021 has had to endure a chaotic year. Not only were they disadvantaged in their Grade 11 year by school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the academic and learning time lost in 2020 affected them in their final year of school as well.
As it has done in past years, the Department of Basic Education has initiated a countdown to the Matric exams with the clock today getting closer to the day that learners will begin to write. Aside from the countdown on the DBE website, the department also provides daily updates on its Twitter account along with an associated image and some advice for learners.

The 1st of November 2021 was the date set aside for matriculants to begin their national senior certificate final examinations, but the department of basic education has amended the examination timetable and brought the exams forward to accommodate the upcoming local government elections. The elections are scheduled for 1 November 2021.
In a statement on Wednesday, 15 September, the department announced that the exam papers for English paper one; Business Studies paper one and the non-official languages paper one, which were scheduled to be written on 1 and 2 November, will now be written on 27 and 28 October.
The department has also urged all candidates to keep working hard and making use of all resources available to support their learning.
