Basic Education Teaching Assistant Applications Extended to 10 October 2021

The Department of Basic Education has announced that it has extended the application deadline for Phase two of the Basic Education Employment Initiative to Sunday, 10 October 2021 at midnight. 

Candidates are advised to submit their applications online via the zero-rated sayouth.mobi site to ensure efficiency in data collection and management. The platform has been centralized to enable fairness in the application and recruitment process.

“Applications for the #BEEI have been extended to 10 October 2021,” the Department of Basic Education said.

The department added to say that the application deadline was marked for midnight on 03 October, but has now been moved to Sunday 10 October at midnight.

As previously announced, the Department of Education is looking for 287 000 unemployed young people to employ from November 2021 until March 2022. The vacancies need roughly 192 000 Education Assistants and about 95 000 General School Assistants.

The project was first introduced in 2020 as the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), before phase II was announced in September and met with huge excitement.

The department’s recruitment plan will offer six assisting positions: Education Assistants (Curriculum and ICT-e-Cadres, Reading Champions, and Child and Youth Care Worker, General School Assistant – Handyman and General School Assistant – Sports.

All successful candidates will be placed in schools for 5 months, from 1 November 2021 to 31 March 2022, for the following available opportunities:

  • Education Assistant – Curriculum
  • Education Assistant – ICT/e-Cadres
  • Education Assistant – Reading Champions
  • General School Assistant – Child & Youth Care Worker
  • General School Assistant – Handyman (no matric required)
  • General School Assistant – Sports and Enrichment Agent (no matric required).

DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION: WHERE APPLY FOR THE POSTS:

The education office confirmed the platform on which the country’s unemployed youth should apply on: the mobile website sayouth.mobi and tshepo.mobi

Those who are eligible to apply must be aged 18 to 35, should not be studying education, nor receiving any form of government grant. The department said young people with disabilities and women are encouraged to apply for this enriching experience.

“Selected candidates will have an opportunity to receive training on various skills that will equip them for future employment opportunities,” the department said.
