SASSA R350 Grant: What Does application status ‘Age Outside Range’ Mean?

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has rejected around 3.7 million Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) applications since the grant was reintroduced in August 2021. 

There are a number of reasons why people will be rejected for the SASSA R350 grant. One of the reasons which people receive when they check their grant application status is ‘age_outside_range’. 

SASSA R350 Grant: What Government Payroll Registered Means

SASSA says grant applicants who receive this message do not fall within the age requirement for the SRD grant. To qualify for the SRD grant, you must be above the age of 18 years old and below the age of 60 years old. If you are younger than 18 you parent or guardian may apply for a grant in order to look after you.  If you are 60 years old you qualify for the SASSA older persons grant.

 Here are the requirements for the older persons grant

  • You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee
  • You must not be younger than 60 years old.
  • You must not be in receipt of another social grant for him or herself.
  • You and your spouse must comply with the means test.
  • You must not be maintained or cared for in a State Institution.
  • You must submit a 13 digit bar coded identity document.

If you believe you do qualify for the SASSA R350 SRD grant, you may submit an appeal. Follow the steps listed below to have your grant application reconsidered by SASSA

Visit the SRD Website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za

  1. Find the Application for Reconsideration tab.
  2. Click on where it says ‘click here to apply for reconsideration’.
  3. You will be asked to provide your ID number and Mobile number.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the reconsideration of your payment.
