What Is The MCAT Test?

As the name suggests, the MCAT is a compulsory test that must be taken by all students looking to gain admission into a medical college. While having good grades has always been a part of the requirements needed to pursue a medical course, an impressive MCAT result came into the list of admission requirements only 30 years ago. At the bottom line, the MCAT test is an assessment of pre-medical students by the Association of American Medical Colleges to identify the ideal candidates and offer the certificates in form of a good result from the taken tests. And failure to present this result may forfeit your admission into a medical college.

How Important Is The MCAT Test?

Just like I have mentioned before, the MCAT test is one of the most important requirements for securing your way into a medical college. Without it, no matter how great your pre-medical school grades were or how expensive the admission form of your chosen medical college is, your admission will be forfeited. In support of that, the MCAT test is a process by which the fitting candidates are tested filtered out of the less privileged. Note that there are 3 categories on the test and I will be talking on those later on.

When Should I Take The MCAT Test

You can always take the MCAT in the calendar year that is just before the year of entering a medical school. This way, you secure the most important result in hand. Nevertheless, it is important that you’re content and comfortable with both the subjects and the topics on which you’ll be tested in the test. Also, here are some few things to note when deciding upon when you should take the MCAT test;

  • You may only take the test for a maximum of 3 times in a year
  • The maximum number of time you may retake a failed test in two years is four times
  • After taking and failing the MCAT test 7 times in a lifetime you’ll no longer be allowed for MCAT test

How Should I Prepare For The MCAT Test?

For the fact that the MCAT test is one of the most time-consuming in preparation for, most students are obsessed about getting the best way on how to prepare for MCAT. Though no prepping process has been set in stone for it, below is a step-by-step process to get fully prepared and make good grades.

  • Step 1; decide on your study capacity
  • Step 2; create an MCAT study plan that is unique to your study capacity
  • Step 3; collect your pre-medical school books and materials under the core science subjects
  • Step 4; make a to-do list that highlights when each material is to be completed
  • Step 5; complete your to-do list to complete the pre-requisite prep stage
  • Step 6; collect the previous year MCAT materials for revision

What Should I expect From The MCAT test

There are three basic test categories on the MCAT through which your reasoning skills are tested together with your critical analysis skills. You may expect that your understanding of the following scientific fields is tested critically by solving real problems.

  • Biological and biochemical foundations of living systems
  • Physical and chemical foundations of biological systems
  • Psychological, social, and biological foundations of behavior
