The Services Sector Education and Training Authority (Services SETA ) was founded in 2000 via the Skills Development Act of 1998.

The Services SETA are responsible for ensuring that the services sector skill requirements are identified and ensuring that sufficient skills are readily available.


Services SETA Bursary will be awarding bursary funding to both employed and unemployed learners, specifically those studying educational programmes within the services industry, educational fields that adhere to scarce and critical skills, as well as artisans.
Bursaries will be awarded to those studying in the following fields of study (undergraduate and postgraduate):

Service sector qualifications:

      • Business Administration
      • Business Management
      • Communication Studies
      • Human Resources
      • Marketing
      • Project Management
      • Public Administration
      • Media Studies
      • Real Estate
      • Property Development
      • Hair and Personal Care

Scarce and critical skills within other sectors:

      • Economics
      • Investments
      • Actuarial Science
      • Web and Multimedia Development
      • Medical Science
      • Telecommunication Engineering
      • Aircraft Piloting
      • Mechatronics
      • Metallurgy
      • Anthropology
      • Sociology


      • Artisanal qualifications in various trades/ fields


The aim of the bursary award is to provide funding and resources for the skills development needs of the services sector.

The Services SETA bursary will cover either full or partial tuition fees (to be determined) and prescribed books, as well as accommodation and meals (for full-time unemployed students) and allowances for travel and research (for Masters and PhD students)


Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

      • South African citizen

Unemployed students who have:

      • Completed Matric
      • Applied/ registered to full-time study within one of the aforementioned fields of study
      • Applied/ registered to study at a public higher learning institution in SA
      • Intend on studying towards an NQF level 5 (or higher) qualification

Employed students who are:

      • Studying part-time or full-time towards an NQF level 5 (or higher) qualification
      • Studying at a public higher learning institution in SA

      • ID document (certified copy)
      • Matric certificate/ results, if entering the first year of study (certified copy)
      • Latest tertiary academic record, if a current tertiary student (certified copy)
      • Proof of acceptance from your tertiary institution
      • Proof of relationship to applicant
      • Parents/ Guardians ID documents (certified copies)
      • Parents/ Guardians proof of income (latest payslip etc)
