If you are a tech nut who’s excited about changing the way we communicate with each other, a career in the information communication technology (ICT) sector might be the one for you.

Promising students in South Africa have an exciting new opportunity to obtain greater, more in-depth experiences in high performance computing (HPC) through the  Khulisa ICT Academy, a partnership between the South African Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC), and technology group, Dell Computers. Located in Bryanston, north of Johannesburg, Khulisa is a High Performance Computirg Programme, which was launched by Dell South Africa in January 2016 to upsklll previously disadvantaged young people who have a flair for IT – with the goal of making them work-ready and highly employable.

This 2 year programme is an end to end development solution partially delivered by the academy and various training providers. To allow the students to concentrate on their education and future professions, each will receive a stipend for the duration of their time at the academy. Upon graduation, these rising HPC stars will be ready to enter into careers in any number of industries.

FOR RECENT MATRICULANTS OR CURRENT MATRIC STUDENTS:

The overall purpose is for training students with High Performance Computing. High Performance Computing (HPC) most generally refers to the practice of aggregating computing power in a way that delivers much higher performance than one could get out of a typical desktop computer or workstation in order to solve large problems in science, engineering, or business.

Requirements

  • South African born African citizen.
  • Employment Equity candidates only – preference for females
  • Minimum of 65% for Maths, Physical Science, English and IT related courses;
  • Not be engaged formal/part-time employment.
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 27 years. *For learners with disability age up to 30
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Must have an interest in IT or High-Performance Computing and have ability to work under pressure
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be self-motivated.
  • Mandatory completion of psychometrics tests to confirm an aptitude for an IT related career and attitude which will be conducive to participating in the program.

Students will receive training on the following

  • Comptia A+,N+, Server+, Storage+
  • Data Centre Operations.
  • LIPC 1-3 (Linux Certification).
  • Cluster management and monitoring.
  • Microsoft CP.
  • VMWARE CP.

FOR RECENT GRADUATES AND FINAL YEAR STUDENTS

The overall purpose is for training students with High Performance Computing. High Performance Computing (HPC) most generally refers to the practice of aggregating computing power in a way that delivers much higher performance than one could get out of a typical desktop computer or workstation in order to solve large problems in science, engineering, or business

Requirements

  • South African born African citizen.
  • Employment Equity candidates only – preference for females
  • Hold a valid and recognised Diploma/University Full Degree or in their last year (2017) of studies. English as a second language.
  • Not be engaged in formal employment
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 27 years *For learners with a disability, age up to 30 years
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Must have an interest in High-Performance Computing and have the ability to work under pressure
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be self-motivated
  • Mandatory completion of psychometrics tests to confirm an aptitude for an IT related career and attitude which will be conducive to participating in the program.
