Intro:

For the last several years, rugs have become popular home furnishings. Those who grew up in carpeted homes might have some apprehension about acquiring a tapestry.

The sheer selection is bountiful. Plus, each style has a distinct history that makes them more special.

That’s why we cover the importance of rugs. We also help you understand how to use them at home.

The Importance of Rugs

Rugs have rich histories. In 2022, modern conveniences will exist for at least 50 years.  Therefore, the public expects them. However, life hundreds of years ago was very different.

For example, the flat weave rug provided relief to the knees of worshippers in ancient Turkey. Thus, the first rugs serve important purposes.

Entering 2022, tapestries serve other purposes. For example, Lawrence of La Brea outlines how the right rug can complement your home’s lighting.

Although, worshippers still use the flatweave for their original purpose.

Let’s look at five more benefits of tapestries.

1. Protects the Floor

Tapestries complement carpeted floors. You can place tapestries on top of the carpet and make it work.

If your home has hardwood, marble, or granite floors, tapestries protect them.

Scratching wood and natural stone is too easy. Then, it’s permanent and difficult to hide. However, placing a rug over the damage hides it.

If you place tapestries in high-traffic areas, they protect the floor too.

2. Offers SoundProofing

Bare floors create an echo chamber. The echo becomes more obvious if your home has high ceilings. There is no sneaking into the house; the bare floor magnifies every step.

Tapestries absorb sound. Therefore, if you have creaky floorboards, you can cover them up.

3. Improves Indoor Air Quality

Rugs help trap the pollutants floating inside your home. At the right angle, the sun’s rays allow you to see everything floating indoors. Tapestries help trap the pollutants in the fibers.

In the fibers, pollutants have less opportunity to bounce back into the air. Then, you can get rid of them when you vacuum the tapestry weekly.

4. Prevents Slips and Falls

Coupled with a rug pad, tapestries help prevent slips and falls.

Hardwood and natural stone floors remain beautiful. Until post-World War II, they were the norm too. The 1950s saw a new home-building phase. Builders added carpeted floors and central HVAC.

Then, the 1990s brought bare floors back in style. However, in some circumstances, they become slippery. Rugs fix that.

5. Creates a Cozy Environment

A great way to create a cozy indoor environment is to add at least one rug to your home. Even if you place it as a centerpiece in the living room, it becomes somewhere to sit during family time.

Some call minimalist and modern interior design cold. These themes focus on functionality over opulence. A tapestry adds warmth in a figurative and literal sense.

How to Use Them In Home

Now that you understand the importance of rugs, let’s discuss how to use them at home.

1. Statement PIeces

On size alone, tapestries double as perfect statement pieces. If you pick up a Persian, traditional, or art deco rug, it makes a statement. Craftspeople create pieces of art, and no two are exactly alike.

Statement pieces draw attention. Some tapestry owners acquire rugs and display them. They want guests to admire their investment. In minimalist-themed homes, it’s an easy way to add decor without adding clutter.

2. Define a Space

New homes feature open layouts. It gives individuals the freedom to create spaces. To define these spaces, use a rug. Rugs have a range of sizes. They start at 3 by 5 feet and go to 12 by 15 feet.

You can define the bar area with one rug and use another to define your work area.

3. Anchor the Inter Decor

For individuals who shy away from fully integrating an interior design theme, rugs offer a starting point. Once you find a tapestry that you love, use it to anchor your home’s interior decor.

Use its color palette, style, and pattern as a guide.

Conclusion

To start your rug journey, explore your options online. Then, measure the spaces where you think you will set them. Next, consider your budget. These parameters will make it easier to narrow down your options.
