Registrations for the 2021 academic year are open at Sol Plaatje University. Sol Plaatje University’s mission is to become an institution positioned to graduate citizens competent and capable of realising the aspirations of society. 

Sol Plaatje University (SPU) was the first University built after Apartheid and was the first built in Northern Cape. It states that it is, “Positioning itself as a niche university, SPU offers academic programmes of a high intellectual nature in fields that meet the needs of the South African thrust to develop a nation that is proud of its heritage and roots.”

The university offers a range of both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. SPU offers courses in four faculties, namely: Economic and Management Sciences, Education, Humanities, Natural and Applied Sciences. 

Registration Dates

Returning students: 

15 February – 12 March 2021 (followed by an Orientation period of one (1) week)

First-time entering students:

1 – 5 March 2021 (followed by an Orientation period of two (2) weeks)


The university will be running online registration for Returning Students in 2021 so that everyone can be kept safe from Covid-19. 

All Returning students will be required to register online by using their own devices via the SPU ITS Student iEnabler System.

Once registration has been completed students will receive information about the Online Orientation for Returning Students that will take place from 15 to 19 March 2021. 

SPU will be holding online registration on campus for all new first year students. This will take place as follows:

  1. verification, screening, and sanitising
  2. online academic registration
  3. issuance of a student card and laptop
  4. residence administration.

 Students will need to present their firm offer letter for entry into the campus and to the registration venues. No family members or friends will be able to enter registration venues with students, this is so that the university can be compliant to Covid-19 regulations. 

Once students have registered they will receive information about the Orientation for New First Year Students that will take place from 8 to 19 March 2021, comprising of both face-to-face and online sessions.
