Applications for the school assistant positions powered through the Basic Education Employment Initiative will close very soon. The Department of Basic Education invites unemployed youth to apply so this is your last chance.

Applications for nearly 300 000 teaching assistant job vacancies that are available across the country, will close on Sunday the 10th October! These vacancies are part of Government’s response to the country’s high unemployment rate.

The recruitment drive opened on Monday 27 September and was expected to close on 03 October 2021. The programme is looking to place 290 000 youths in a five-month employment program as Teaching Assistants and General School Assistants.

By 2 October, the department had already received 2 726 117 applications for the Basic Educations Employment Initiative (BEEI).

The first round of the BEEI took place earlier this year with many calling for it to be extended. After the programme was shown to be a major help to teachers and with a need for more teachers in classrooms, government then decided to start up the programme again.

These jobs are for unemployed youth aged between 18 and 35 who are not working, studying or training both full-time and part-time. You will also need to have Matric.

Once hired, you will then work for 5 months starting in November. Assistants will receive a stipend of R3817 per month.

This initiative forms part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme which aims to combat the high levels of unemployment in South Africa, which is especially high amongst youth.
