As NSFAS Applications open soon, they have warned the public about disinformation and bogus websites that are aimed at defrauding students.Advertisement

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme announced that applications for the 2022 Academic year are set to open soon. They are currently finalising relevant updates to their systems to ensure students are able to apply with no complications.

NSFAS has warned students about fake websites and social media platforms which are advising students to share their personal details, unlock their NSFAS Wallet accounts and apply for NSFAS by clicking on their links.

Students are encouraged to apply for admission to higher education institutions if they have not done so already.

Recently a fake Circular Notice 22 was uploaded to social media platforms which announced that NSFAS allowances would increase during the 2022 academic year. Since then NSFAS has confirmed that the Circular is not from NSFAS and includes false information.

Students are reminded that they should contact the NSFAS Contact Centre if they require any assistance with funding. The centre is fully functional and willing to assist students with any queries.

Students may keep an eye on official NSFAS social media platforms for updates about applications and funding.

NSFAS stated that any Circular or information that is released through unofficial communication should be regarded as disinformation.

Circulars released by NSFAS go through a vigorous process and can only be released on approved platforms.

“We are disturbed by the increasing disinformation in recent weeks, where false information that is spread deliberately disseminated to deceive. We encourage our students to be vigilant. We identified all the bogus platforms that masquerade as NSFAS, and we have reported them to the relevant authorities for further investigation,” stated NSFAS.
