Applications for the special Covid grant set up by Sassa where you can receive R350 are now open. Here are some important details on the grant including how to apply through WhatsApp.
This morning, Minister of Social Development Lindiww Zulu spoke and gave furthe details surrounding the R350 Sassa grant. Applications for the grant officially opened today at 12:00.
In order to apply, you need to type the word “sassa” to 082 046 8553 on WhatsApp and it will take you through the process. You don’t have to attach any documents, you will just be required to punch them in.
You will receive a response from SASSA should your application be successful.
If the system was closed when you applied before this, then you need to reapply. However, if you applied during the testing stage, then you need not reapply. If you have gone through the process and received a reference number, there is no need to reapply.
If you applied more than once, Sassa has a system that will assist in removing these duplicate applications and deal with only one application per citizen.
It is found that some unemployed individuals do not have bank accounts. Fortunately, citizens without bank accounts can still apply for the grant. Payment will be effected through a money transfer, once all the necessary validations have been completed.
It is important to be considerate with this grant. If you are married to someone who is employed, you should think about others who have no income coming in for the household and are in dire need of this money. Sassa has stated, “The intention of this grant is to provide those without any income at all. The need for citizens to “self exclude” is also critical. For example a housewife who was not working prior to the lockdown and has a spouse who is employed, should not apply.”
Sassa also announced that, “Under lockdown level 4 no disability grants, care dependency grants or grant in aid applications will be done, as the access to health facilities is restricted to emergency cases and COVID 19 cases only”.
Should you be applying for someone else, you will need to indicate so.
