Overview
The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), in partnership with the SABS Design Institute, invites design students to participate in a Furniture Design Competition.
The aim of the competition is to nurture design capability in the country, raise the image of the South African Furniture Manufacturing Industry, and grow the industry’s competitiveness.
The theme of the competition is “Limited Space” and seeks to promote the design of modern furniture for small living spaces, and the use of local wood and textiles. The entrants will have to submit technical drawings of the product (including the final product dimensions and 3D drawings), a description of materials and inputs to be used in production, the description of the design, and the concept behind the design.
