Business Intelligence (BI) Developer at Paarl Media Group

Paarl Media Group is currently seeking to appoint a Business Intelligence Developer. This role requires a strategic, analytical approach to business solutions to improve business decision making.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 Aggregate data from multiple sources in an efficient data warehouse

 Design, develop, and implement complex database systems, enterprise-level solutions for large multidimensional databases, tools, and applications

 Promote the use of BI tools and concepts

 Gather and translate business requirements into functional BI specifications

 Writing relational and multidimensional database queries

 Configuring, deploying and maintaining database servers

 Monitor and address data quality, reporting, and application issues

 Develop and maintain new reports, procedures, data structures and databases to support the business functions

 Analyze data and user – requirements to build objects for use in business reporting and business intelligence

 Design and implement ETL processes based on business needs using SSIS

 Work directly with the business users to understand the needs of business

 Include appropriate best-practice security as fundamental to design and delivery of any solution

 Participate in the installation, configuration and support of the BI environment

 Participate in writing end user procedures and training users in the use of the final product

 Ensure that proven DBA practices are consistently used

 Help develop a standard BI Platform for Paarl Media

 

Educational Requirements:

 Tertiary IT-related degree or diploma

 

Experience Requirements:

 Minimum 1 year BI experience

 Minimum 1 year experience in Microsoft SQL Server database development, using T-SQL, with in-depth knowledge of analytical functions

 Minimum 1 year experience in Data Warehousing, with in-depth knowledge of dimensional modeling

 Experience in relational databases such as SQL and ORACLE

 Some experience in DBA, Business Analysis/Data Analysis, Data Modelling, Data Quality and Governance

 Designer and Developer experience in Business Intelligence tools, i.e. COGNOS, QlikView, SAS – an advantage

 Experience in .Net development (e.g. C#) and HTML/JavaScript – an advantage

 Experience in PowerPivot, PowerView – an advantage

 Experience using SCRUM or Kanban using Agile Methodologies – an advantage

 MDX skills – an advantage

 Reporting experience – an advantage

 

Skills and Competencies:

• Demonstrated SQL and other BI skills • Expertise utilising Microsoft ETL/data integration tools (SSIS and T-SQL scripts) • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and/or Excel Services; SharePoint; expertise in SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 SSRS, SSAS; and SSIS • Good oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way • Applying expertise and technology • Analytical and detail orientation • Ability to work well under pressure • Strategic and forward thinking • Leading and supervising • Delivering results and meeting clients expectations
