AECOM is looking for a Graduate Town Planner in Cape Town. The successful incumbent should thrive in a fast-paced and vibrant environment which would demand high levels of assertiveness and astute competencies in liaising with consultants and clients on the various projects. The position specifically calls for a town planner with previous experience who could manage projects within the given timeframe and budget, with minimum supervision. It would be expected of the appointee to be able to cope with varying project demands in meeting tight deadlines.

The appointee will further be responsible for the management of all town planning related drawings in terms of ISO procedures. The positions accompanying administrative duties should also be conducted in line with ISO requirements.

It will be expected of the appointee to attend project meetings. Overtime could be required to meet project deadlines.

Main responsibilities for this position:

  • Quality control to ISO 9001 standards;
  • Assist the town planners with town planning projects up to completion/project close-out phase;
  • Facilitate accurate record-keeping of all town planning projects;
  • Administrative functions, related to town planning projects
  • Conducting town planning site inspections and relevant project related meetings;
  • Monthly project management of town planning projects

Personal attributes, qualities or competencies needed for the role:

  • Language proficiency: English and Afrikaans OR Xhosa
  • Valid Code 08 driver’s license with own transport
  • Work related experience required (include specific skills or abilities necessary to do the job):
  • Excellent People Management Skills
  • Project Management Skills
  • Computer Literate, with demonstrated competencies in Ms Word, Excel, Power-point and Outlook
  • Technical Report Writing Skills
  • Presentation Skills
  • Prior exposure to Project Management, Construction Management and Built Environment advantages

Requirements

  • Previous work experience as a Town Planner or as a Town Planning intern
  • Computer Literacy (especially AutoCAD and or GIS

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least completed the National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Town and Regional planning, Urban Design or related built environment project
  • Computer Literacy – MS Word, MS Excel and MS Project
  • Registration or able to be registered with the Town Planning Council
