Submit CV: Internship Opportunity at GIZ South Africa

An Internship has become available for GIZ South Africa’s Country Office in Gauteng. The Office is located in Pretoria opposite the Hatfield Gautrain Station. During the internship you will obtain the opportunity to gain practical experiences at the interface of programme implementation and administration in the area of international development cooperation.

GIZ is a German development cooperation with South Africa, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

You will support the Junior Country Manager, Heads of Units (Procurement, Finance, Logistics/PR, and HR) and the members of the Corporate Sustainability Handprint Working Group in a variety of tasks:

  • Assist in the introduction of a newly developed sustainability management instrument (Corporate Sustainability Handprint). The support includes quantitative and qualitative data collection and internal and external communication.
  • Update information material for GIZ stakeholders.
  • Support the logistical and thematic preparation and execution of upcoming meetings, workshops and conferences that the Office is contributing to.
  • Support the HR Unit with administrative HR matters.
  • Support the Procurement Unit to prepare the vehicle and protocol files for shredding.
  • Support the Finance Unit with administrative duties.

In addition to this, daily organisational and administrative tasks (e.g. writing of minutes of meetings, documentation of workshops) will also form part of your tasks.

Please note that the above list of topics and tasks is not exhaustive and you will also have the opportunity to engage in other specific thematic areas of the Country Office. Some of the tasks might change during the course of the internship to correspond with the dynamic political environment in which GIZ operates.

At the end of your internship you will be required to submit a report on your activities and of your achievements within the programme

Required qualifications, competences and experience

  • You have completed your undergraduate degree and have an academic background in the field of Business or Public Administration, TVET Administration education, development studies, international relations, economics or another relevant field of study.
  • Preferably you have gained some practical knowledge on public administration, development cooperation, and/or sustainability management. Ideally you have already gathered related work experience through a previous internship.
  • Experience in monitoring & evaluation, publication and event management, qualitative research methodologies, project management and working with knowledge and information management systems will be an asset.
  • Furthermore you have the ability to work independently; you are result-oriented and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • You are creative, enthusiastic for new challenges and able to work harmoniously with people of different cultural background.
  • Fluency in English as well as excellent oral and written communication skills are required. German knowledge would be an asset.
  • Very good IT-skills (Microsoft Office software package, internet research) are an additional requirement.
  • Please note that interns must be enrolled at higher-learning institutions or have graduated less than 6 months before the start of the internship.
