NPA LLB Graduate Training Programme July 2018

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is inviting applications from law graduates and final year law students who have completed their LLB degrees to apply for its 2016 Aspirant Prosecutors Training Opportunities. Trainee Prosecutors will be based at various offices of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) accross South Africa for the duration of the training. It is anticipated that the programme will commence on 1 March 2016.

Trainee / Aspirant Prosecutors will receive monthly remuneration equivalent to an annual salary of R150 384.00 to R174 525.00 (LP-1 to LP-2) per annum

  • GAUTENG: Benoni; Johannesburg; Pretoria; Randburg; Soweto.
  • FREE STATE: Bloemfontein; Welkom.
  • KWAZULU NATAL: Durban; Pietermaritzburg; Madadeni.
  • EASTERN CAPE: East London; Port Elizabeth; Mthatha.
  • WESTERN CAPE: George; Wynberg.
  • LIMPOPO: Polokwane; Thabamoopo.
  • NORTH WEST: Klerksdorp.
  • NORTHERN CAPE: Kimberley.

Requirements

  • Applicants who are in possession of a South African LLB degree or equivalent foreign qualification certified as such by SAQA, which includes at least the following courses: Law of Evidence, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Interpretation of Statutes are invited to submit their applications to attend the above-mentioned prosecutorial training.
  • Or final year LLB students with the courses listed above provided they would have completed the degree by commencement of the programme.
  • Applicants must be South African
  • Citizens up to 35 years of age, by the closing date of the advert.

DUTIES:

Successful candidates once appointed will undergo a 12 months Internship programme which shall include a formal assessment at the end to determine overall competency to be appointed as a Prosecutor in the NPA.
On successful completion of the programme, the Aspirant Prosecutors will be appointed as Prosecutors in the District Courts responsible for:-

  • conducting prosecutions and attending to all matters incidental thereto;
  • act as the gatekeeper of criminal law;
  • represent public interest in the criminal justice process.

CONDITIONS:

When carrying out their duties, Prosecutors are required at all times to comply with the Code of Conduct and observe Policy Directives as determined and issued by the National Director of Public Prosecutions.

A written contract between the National Prosecuting Authority and the Aspirant Prosecutor outlining the conditions of service shall be entered into and such contract will be valid and binding between the parties.

An entry examination will be written which will form part of the selection process and only candidates successful in the examination will be allowed to the next level of the selection process.

Applicants should only apply for one chosen training centre.

Should an applicant apply for more than one training centre he/she will be totally disqualified from the process.

  • detailed CV (not exceeding 5 pages)

  •  certified copies of Qualifications or statement of results for final year students, as well as a copy of an Identity Document

  • (failure to comply with these requirements, will result in the application being disqualified).
