Two internships, in the NMISA gas analysis laboratory, are available to assist in research, development, realisation and maintenance of National Measurement Standards for gas analysis. Also assist with the dissemination of traceability from these standards to industry, thereby supporting South African industry.
Salary: R 5 445.00 – R 7 260.00 per month
Duration: Twelve month contract
Minimum Qualifications, Skills And Experience
BSc Degree in Chemistry or BTech in Analytical Chemistry or a higher qualification.
Computer literate: MS Office and especially proficient on MS Excel
Theoretical knowledge of:
- Gas chromatography coupled with other detectors
- Spectroscopic methods
- Various analytical quantification procedures such as instrument calibration using external and/or internal standards
Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance of traceability at the highest level
- Gravimetric preparation of gas mixtures
- Verification and certification of gas mixtures
- Provide technical and scientific input into specialist projects
- Compile scientific reports for accurate and complete record keeping
- Calibrate breathalysers and gas analysers for external customers
- Prepare calibration certificates in accordance with the gas laboratory’s procedures
- Comply with the requirements of the NMISA total quality management system to ensure process consistency and effectiveness
