Netcare Union Hospital has a vacancy for a Pharmacy Front Shop Assistant/ Cashier in Alberton, Johannesburg, Gauteng.

Role Summary

  • The core function of the Front Shop Assistant is to assist customers with retail sales.
  • The incumbent will also be responsible for the effective customer liaison, advising of customers and query resolution to build customer loyalty


  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4 certificate
  • Intermediate computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Work experience in a Hospital or Retail Pharmacy environment would be advantageous.
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge and experience of a pharmaceutical stock control system would be advantageous.
  • Merchandising knowledge and experience would be advantageous

Duties and Responsiblilties

  • Answering the telephones.
  • Operating the point of sales system with regards to sales, accounts payable,
  • All monies to be checked and verified as non-fraudulent notes, before capturing the  transaction in order to reduce risk and comply with the company policy.
  • Investigate any overs and unders for the day
  • Always maintain 100% accuracy and keep unders and overs to less than R5.
  • Preparing of staff accounts and receiving the payments on the accounts.
  • Recording statistical data as requested.
  • Assist with ordering front shop stock, toiletries, cosmetics etc
  • Assist in pricing of stock
  • Maintain a list of stock that is sold out on shelves and hand list to front shop buyer Unpacking of orders received and checking such stock against the invoice,
  • Displaying of merchandise in an attractive manner.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping of the front shop area.
  • Cashing up of the tills adhering to the prescribed protocol.
  • Ensuring that the tills have enough change.
  • Assisting in the bi-annual stock take.
  • Responsible for cyclical count in the front shop
  • Performing any reasonable duty which may be requested from time to time.
