Molemo Kgomo & Mpumi Motsabi founders of Ntomb’entle Dolls

Ntomb’entle Dolls was launched from black business women to create a range of South African dolls.

Two pioneering business women have launched their doll making enterprize, sparking some controversial discussions around race and beauty in the process.

Molemo Kgomo and Mpumi Motsabi are the founders of Ntomb’entle Dolls.

The two mother’s decided to create and market a more indigenous looking brand of doll after they saw a gap in the market for locally produced toys.

The dolls are designed with African features in order for black children to ‘identify’ with their toys.

One of the motivations for creating these dolls was to challenge westernised ideas of beauty.“…we’re actually doing something that is going to help a lot of kids, a lot of families to eventually redefine the beauty perceptions”.

So far the doll range covers eight African cultures but the entrepreneurs plan to expand their product line to represent every African nation.

What do you think?

Will this toy help to redefine beauty? should every culture be represented?
