CIPC: Patent Searchers at CIPS (20 Posts)

The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) invites applications for 20 Patent Searcher positions .

The purpose of these positions is to perform different patent searches and advise on patentability on request.

Remuneration: R416 856 per annum (Total Cost to Company)

CIPC is South Africa’s custodian of information on Intellectual Property, Companies and Close Corporations as well as Co-operatives.

Minimum requirements:

  • B. Degree in Science (majors Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemistry); B Engineering (Mining, Mechanical, Electrical, Information Engineering);
  • Honours, Master or PhD will be advantageous
  • 1 or more years of experience in the relevant industry or R& D Institution will be advantageous

Key performance areas:

  • To perform patent searches to establish state of- the- art, novelty, inventive step, infringement or patentability of inventions
  • Perform preliminary examination based on the search results
  • To provide opinion on patentability
  • To provide search reports and preliminary examination reports
  • To receive and resolve customer queries;
  • To report on performance and to identify and escalate performance constraints

Successful candidates will be expected to undergo extensive training on the legal aspects of the patent search and examination locally or abroad as well as the relevant search tools.
