Bursary Programme May 2018 at BHP Billiton

BHP Billiton bursary are offered to South African residents to provide tertiary education support.BHP Billiton is a leading global resources company, with approximately 128,800 employees and contractors working in 141 locations across 26 countries. Our strategy is to own and operate large, long-life, low-cost, expandable, upstream assets diversified by commodity, geography and market. We are among the world’s largest producers of major commodities, including iron ore, metallurgical and energy coal, conventional and unconventional oil and gas, copper, aluminium, manganese, uranium, nickel and silver.

Bursaries are only open to South African residents and include the following:

  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Residence fees or equivalent allowance
  • Annual cash allowance
  • Personal computer allowance for recipients of second year bursary
  • Vacation work for Academic University students and practical training (integrated workplace learning) for Technical University students.

BHP Billiton offers bursaries for full-time university and university of technology studies in the following disciplines:

  • Mining Engineering
  • Mine Surveying
  • Extractive Metallurgy
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy and Light Current)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering (Minerals Processing)
  • Geology (Honours).
Study bursaries are open to all Grade 12 students with a minimum of a C symbol in both mathematics and science and to students who are already studying at a university or university of technology. The universities have different requirements for the symbol needed in these two subjects. Students therefore need to contact them directly for further information.After successfully obtaining a degree, the bursary recipient is required to work for BHP Billiton for the equivalent of each year for which they received the bursary.
