Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit, in the Department of Paediatrics is a South African Medical Research Council and University of the Witwatersrand research unit and invites applications for the position of In-service trainee to work on current research projects (initial 1 year contract).
Responsibilities / Duties
- Centrifugation of blood samples
- Laboratory practices – biological sample handling and biochemical tests
- Data capturing
- Other activities related to data management
- Sample transportation
- Routine biochemistry and RIA/Elisa Biochemistry
- To run Auto-Analyzer
Qualifications:
- Studying towards diploma in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bio-technology and /or any related science degree or diploma requiring lab work experience
- Familiar with laboratory environment , procedures and practices
- High levels of computer literacy and advanced use of Access will be required.
- Candidates should have a well-developed work ethic and drive, and a capacity to work under pressure and after hours when needed, as well as the versatility to apply quantitative and qualitative methodologies to challenging subject matter across disciplinary boundaries.
- A valid driver’s license is essential
