The South African National Society is inviting students to apply for the Killie Campbell Bursary. The bursary is awarded each year for postgraduate studies in History or related fields, at a recognized South African university. The candidate’s area of research (pertaining to their dissertation) has to be a topic related to Southern Africa (preferably the history of KwaZulu-Natal).

The bursary amount varies, however, it is assumed that the 2021 bursary will equate to R20 000.

MORE ABOUT THE SANC BURSARY PROGRAMME – SELECTION

The candidate will be selected by the selection committee; thereafter, the candidate may be required to partake in an in-person or Skype interview with the committee. The successful candidate will receive half the bursary at the South African National Society meeting in September 2021, and the other half will be awarded 6 months after the President of the society receives a well-written submission by the candidate’s supervisor.

Bursary recipients will be required to give an outline of their topic at one of the South African National Society’s monthly meetings. Students are then required to submit a soft copy to the South African National Society’s website once they have completed their dissertation.
