The Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) was formed with the goal of providing financial assistance to poor and middle income university students, in order that they may afford their tertiary fees.
ISFAP has thus far been able to fund over 2300 students, with contributions received from donors witin the private and public sector – including Woolworths, Liberty, Coronation, Discovery, Hollard, Sanlam, Sasol, Sappi, Mondi, Nedbank, Standard Bank and Volkswagen to name a few.

ABOUT THE ISFAP BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
ISFAP is inviting Engineering students from the “missing middle” to apply for the bursary award. Students who are registered to study for the 2021 academic year at CUT, NMU, UJ or WITS, to study in one of these fields, may apply for the bursary:
- Computer Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
MORE ABOUT THE ISFAP BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE
The ISFAP bursary is aimed at students who are within the “missing middle”, this means students who are too poor to afford university but not poor enough to qualify for government funding.
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, books, accommodation, meals, travel and a stipend.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ISFAP BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be registered to study within one of the aforementioned fields of study, for the 2021 academic year
- You must be entering your 1st year of study in 2021, for studies towards a 3 or 4 year qualification
- You must be registered to study at one of these institutions: Central University of Technology, Nelson Mandela University, University of Johannesburg or University of the Witwatersrand
- You must be in financial need and require funding for your studies
- You must NOT be in receipt of any other study funding (including NSFAS)
- You must have a family household income NOT more than R600 000 per annum
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE ISFAP BURSARY
Students who meet ALL of the above eligibility criteria, can apply by submitting clear copies of the following documentation (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
- Personal information (name, surname, email address and contact number)
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Proof of registration at one of these institutions for 2021: CUT, NMU, UJ or WITS (on tertiary letterhead)
- Proof of household proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of any grants or pension if applicable)
- Confirmation that you are not in receipt of any other funding for the 2021 academic year
