Overview

The Interns: Graphic Designers will contribute towards the design and management of the Electoral Commission’s publications and process flows. The Interns will report to the Deputy Manager Communications and Deputy Manager Staff Training and Development.

Responsibilities/Duties

Key performance areas:

The graphic designer’s job will involve managing more than one design brief at a time and allocating the relevant amount of time according to the urgency and priority of the project.

The work will include:

  • meeting with colleagues to discuss the requirements of a project;
  • interpreting the design needs of a project;
  • estimating the time required to complete the work;
  • developing design briefs by gathering information and data through research;
  • thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts;
  • using innovation to redefine a design brief within the constraints of time;
  • presenting finalized ideas and concepts to colleagues;
  • contributing ideas on designs by service providers;
  • working as part of a team with colleagues, printers and other designers.

Type of Projects:

  • design process flows for training;
  • Layout of internal newsletter;
  • Design of invitations and programmes;
  • Design of brochures, pamphlets and flyers where required;
  • Design of presentations;
  • Design of various templates

Requirements

Basic requirements:

  • Applicants must be in possession of Matric/ N3 and a tertiary qualification (Diploma/ Degree) in Graphic Design (a post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage).
  • He/ she must have covered the latest versions of three or more of the following programmes:Photoshop; Illustrator; InDesign; Flash and Adobe Captivate.
  • Also, the applicant must have a clear understanding of design principles;
  • Ability to work in a pressurized and deadline-driven environment;
  • Ability to work on more than one project;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; attention to detail commitment to service excellence and Good communication skills.
  • He/ She must be Creative; Self-motivated; dynamic; self-organized and punctual.
