Unisa has recently launched an on-campus Covid-19 rapid testing and vaccination programme for staff and students. The university hopes its vaccination programme will contribute towards the country’s vaccination goals. Advertisement

The Muckleneuk Campus, SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) antigen rapid testing is currently underway at an isolation room in the Cas van Vuuren Building.

The vaccination site is located in the Protea Restaurant located in the OR Tambo Building. The programme, which has been organised by the university’s Health Clinic started on 13 October and will run until 17 December 2021.

Professional Nurse at the Employee Relations and Wellness Directorate’ Sister Mokgadi Tefo stated in a virtual interview that participation in an on-campus vaccination will not be mandatory and participation will be voluntary.

However, she mentioned that Unisa students are encouraged to participate because it is the right thing to do. The university will administer jabs of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 Vaccine.

According to Tefo, a Professional Nurse at the Employee Relations and Wellness Directorate’s Department of Human Resources, Unisa forms part of PSET as an open distance eLearning institution,

The vaccination programme was approved by ManCom after Minister Blade Nzimande announced the Covid-19 vaccination rollout plan for the higher education sector.

So far more than 100 vaccine doses have been administered at the university’s Muckleneuk campus. Sister Tefo emphasised that Unisans, particularly students, should come to the campus to get vaccinated.

For primary health care requirements, the facility will remain open strictly by appointment.
