The University of Kwazulu-Natal has confirmed positive tests for Covid-19 of a student and staff member on campus.

The University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN) has confirmed that a staff member and a student has tested positive for Covid-19. These individuals were on-campus.

The student was located at the medical school campus. UKZN spokesperson Normah Zondo stated, “The student has been taken for medical attention. The student, once assessed, will be referred to an appropriate isolation facility”.

The staff member who tested positive worked in the Department of Student Residence Affairs (DSRA) in the annex building at the Howard College Campus. The offices are currently closed and being disinfected.

Contact tracing is being done for both individuals and those who have been in contact with them have been told to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.

Zondo said, “UKZN is following health and safety protocols from national health authorities and has implemented guidelines in relation to social interactions, social distancing, hygiene, travel and protocols on entering our campuses” and that the University was following safety protocols to control the spread of the virus.
