Having money deducted from your social grant can be costly. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has provided steps that recipients can follow to put an end to these deductions.
How to stop unauthorised funeral policy deductions
Send an SMS to 35548 with the following information:
- Dispute
- Identity number
- Full names
- Insurance company name
- Policy duration
- Reason for cancellation
You can dial 0800 601 011 if you are unsure of the name of the insurance company deducting from your social grant.
SASSA offers a number of grants to provide financial relief to those in need. Permanent grants offered by SASSA include:
- Older person’s grant (old age pension)
- Child support grant.
- Care dependency grant.
- Grant in aid (if you live on a social grant, but need someone to take care of you)
- War veteran’s grant.
- Foster child grant.
- Disability grant.
The R350 Social Relief of Distress grant is not a permanent grant, but rather a temporary grant that government introduced in response to Covid-19. It was reintroduced in August 2021, and will be in place until March 2022.
Permanent grants, on the other hand, do not have an end date and recipients receive them for as long as they continue to meet the requirements.
