Today is the last day you can apply to benefit from the Covid-19 Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme (TERS). The fund has said that they will make sure that all the outstanding valid claims are paid.

TODAY, 30 October 2020, is the final day to submit new #Covid19TERS applications for 1 July to 15 August and 16 August to September 2020.

– Unemployment Insurance Fund

The last round of applications to benefit from TERS closes today for the July to 15 September benefits period. The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has made it clear that no further applications will be expected for that period beyond that date.

UIF set out the following closing dates:

  • TERS applications for March 2020 that was supposed to end in May 2020 closed on 25 September 2020
  • TERS applications for June 2020 closed on 15 October 2020
  • TERS applications for July to 15 September is set to close today, 30 October 2020

UIF has also said, “The closing dates will not affect claims that have already been submitted”.

The fund has said that they will make sure that all the outstanding valid claims are paid.

We are also making sure that all the outstanding valid claims are paid, as soon as all the information is received. We still have 462 863 undeclared workers and urge employers to submit these declarations urgently so we can pay these workers.

The UIF will also be doing a re-run of outstanding payments for the months of April, May and June as well as clients.

Bronkhurst said, “The re-run will cover all claims that were not paid for April, May and June due to outstanding information such as undeclared employees. If all the information has been submitted correctly to us, we will be paying these employees this week”

Now that Government has officially announced that they’ll be extended the R350 Special Relief of Distress grant for another three months, will the Unemployment Insurance Fund follow? Everyone is now asking whether the Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) will now also be extended for another three months but it does not look like this will happen.

Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi said, “Any decision on an extension would be made only after extensive engagement with government, Nedlac and the UIF itself.”

The Minister of Employment and Labour also warned that the UIF does not have unlimited funds, and it could soon run out of money to payout. Nxesi then continued to say, “We have about R50 billion available. The question we need to answer now is what is the way forward when we have to deal with mass unemployment? This is a serious matter that the UIF board is looking at.”

As of October 9, since the beginning of lockdown, more than R49 billion had been disbursed in benefits in the form of more than 11 million payments.
