Key responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision and feedback reports on counsellors providing HIV Counselling and Testing services using an appropriate counselling and testing model as per NDOH guidelines?
  • Supervision of counsellors in providing appropriate referrals for HIV positive household members;
  • Ensure quality work by following processes, procedures and steps outlined in the Training Manual provided.
  • Record expenses, claims and any other that will need to be paid out by HSRC for future reference.
  • Drive hired car (may be assisted by other team members who may be registered as co-drivers);

Key requirements:

  • B degree in Social Sciences or other. Applicants with previous relevant work experience as a HTS Coordinator in similar studies without a degree may be considered based on prior learning subject that they hold at least a Grade 12 qualification. 
  • Honours/Masters degree an added advantage
  • Accredited training and certification in HIV counselling and testing;
  • At least two years relevant working experience in field work in a survey study in a research environment;
  • Knowledge of HIV and AIDS;
  • Ability to communicate well in English and other South African Languages;
  • Committed and motivated to preventing HIV and supporting people living with HIV;
  • Non-judgmental, trustworthy and empathetic;
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters;
  • Available for a period of 12 months;
  • Willingness to travel long distances, within and outside of one’s province
  • Willingness to visit selected households during weekends and after hours as needed
  • Willingness to work in a team
  • Be committed and apply self-discipline to completing one’s task as required
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have worked in research (HSRC or elsewhere) in a similar position
  • Has a valid driver’s license; can actually drive i.e. has driven a car  on a regular basis in the last 6 months (trainees may be tested during training)
  • Experience in supervision/team leading
  • Must be a South African Citizen
