Top South African retail chain – Toys R Us & Babies R Us SA – is further expanding its footprint into Africa.
The leading toy retailer’s expansion includes a combined Toys R Us & Babies R Us store in Botswana which is expected to launch in October, offering premium toys and baby products at affordable prices.
The bold move comes shortly after the international brand, which traded independently from South Africa, struggled with a poor retail environment abroad. However, the South African brand remains unaffected.
The first cross-border store opened in November 2014, when Namibia became the first African country, outside of South Africa, to offer customers the much-loved Toys R Us & Babies R Us experience. The brand has since enjoyed great success, growing its presence in Zambia in March 2015, and now, in Gaborone, Botswana.
“Increasing our footprint into Africa allows us to extend our presence in the continent. We are looking forward to opening this fantastic new store and can’t wait to give our new Botswana customers access to our quality toy and baby products,” says Nicole Annells, marketing manager of Toys R Us & Babies R Us South Africa.
Annells said that expansion into Africa was a natural progression for the brand, which has been operating successfully in the South African market over the years, with a thorough understanding of the constantly evolving market and industry.
“The brand is a household name which has earned its reputation as South Africa’s leading toy store and we are thrilled to offer new markets the convenience, affordability and quality at our stores,” added Annells.
Toys R Us & Babies R Us SA will continue to expand its brand within the continent, as well as contribute towards the creation of employment and the growth of the African economy.
The new store is located at Shop 210, Airport Junction Shopping Centre, Gaborone, Botswana.
